Training Program
Swim Swansea is a performance Club based in Swansea. The Club offers training opportunities for all levels of competitive swimmers.
The club has 2 pathways of development. Pathway 1 is the Performance pathway offering elite coaching and training opportunities to National standard and higher swimmers. Pathway 2 is the Competitive Development pathway, this path offers a fantastic coaching program to swimmers that are either late developers or that have not as yet achieved performance level criteria. Swim Swansea has 10 squads in total – 3 in each pathway plus an additional 4 squads focusing on early development of swimming skills and technique.
All training squads within Swim Swansea are focused around the Long Term Development of the athlete. Every stage of the program has a major emphasis on the technical development of all 4 strokes, and important swimming skills – underwater fly kick, sculling, rotation, co-ordination etc.
Technique and Skill Development Squads (Skills 1 and 2)
These squads are the 1st squads within the Swim Swansea LTAD structure. Everything that is taught in these groups is based around technical development. Skills in all squads are developed throughout the progression through the squads.
Skills 3 / Junior Development / National Development / National Potential – follow a I.M Switch program( Please see individual squad pages for more details)
Multi stroke work is done every session during the warm up and swim down. Kick is also a major area in these squads.
Aerobic Deveopment work is introduced into the program from National Development, but only when a swimmer can maintain their technique.
The National Squad is focused around performance swimming – with the squad main focus being the National Youth Championships.
