Club Background & Sponsorship Opportunities

Welcome to Swim Swansea Swimming Club. We are a competitive swimming club, formed 91 years ago. Our members range from 6 year olds to Masters swimmers and number over 220. The club is affiliated to the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association and is working towards Dragon Mark accreditation. We have swimmers ranging from a Fundamentals Level through to International Level in 8 competitive squads. Swim Swansea have a number of very promising Age Group and Youth Swimmers as indicated by our exceptional results at the British National Age Group and Youth Championships and the Welsh Regional Nationals in 2009. For the 2009/2010 season we had 18 qualifiers for the Senior Elite, Youth and Regional Welsh squads more than any other club in Wales.

We compete in a number of leagues and competitions giving us local, regional, national and international level exposure. We have teams entered into the Welsh National League and the National Arena League. The Welsh League consists of clubs from all over Wales competing in a league and final structure.
In the National Arena League, our senior swimmers travel further afield as far west as Plymouth to compete against clubs from all over the South West and Dorset and Wiltshire regions.

In addition to these leagues, we compete at regular Swim Wales Open meets at the National Pool of Wales, other local competitions and the National Age Group and Youth Championships in Sheffield. Additionally we usually have solid representation at the British Championships each year.
Each year at our home pools at Penlan Leisure Centre and the Welsh National Pool, we host two invitation galas, one short course and one long course. We also hold two half term swimming development camps each year in October and May and this year our first mini meet series for young swimmers to develop their competitive skills will be held on selected dates in May/June/July. Throughout the competitive season, our swimmers will typically gain a lot of column inches in the local press after each competition, usually accompanied by a photograph.

Opportunities for Sponsor Exposure

At our home galas, we have many opportunities to make a feature of our sponsor’s involvement with the club, including:

  • Display of banners
  • Advertising in the event programme
  • Public address announcements
  • Distribution of sponsor promotional material
  • Wherever we travel, we wear our club kit with pride and our sponsors can share in this through some form of kit sponsorship
  • Our club website can be used to display a sponsor’s logo complete with a link to the sponsor’s own website

Why we need help from sponsors:

Swimming is a sport that demands a huge level of commitment and dedication from its participants and those that support them. From the age of 12 our swimmers will most likely be training a minimum of 8 hours a week – up to 18 hours for the most talented. Although we have support from the City and County of Swansea for some pool time, for which we are extremely grateful we still incur a considerable cost for pool time to provide the necessary hours of training for our 8 competitive squads. The cost of this and the coaching staff is met by our members through subscription fees.

In addition to these costs, our swimmers (or their parents) spend large sums on kit and entry fees for competitions.

As a club we also occasionally face the need to invest in capital items such as lane ropes and timing equipment and revenue costs such as computer software for meet management and club administration and transport to competitions.

We would be delighted to discuss with potential sponsors any ideas that may be to our mutual benefit.
