National Squad

Coach: Adam Baker adambakerswim@gmail.com

Boys 15 +

Girls 14+

The National Squad is for swimmers who are serious about, committed to, and capable of swimming at National and International level (i.e. competing at National Age Group, National Youth or Senior National Championships).

Performance criteria to join the squad are as follows:

Male and female swimmers wishing to join the national squad must be within 1 % of the 2012 National Qualifying time, using their age at the 2013 nationals.

Swimmers that are already in the national squad must be within 0.5% of the 2012 National qualifying times, using their age at the 2013 nationals.

All swimmers must then be within 1% of the 2013 National times the day after our Swim Swansea meet in May 2013. Swimmers not achieving 1% by this time will move into the Competitive Development Squad for the rest of that year, this is so the National Qualifiers receive the individual attention they need to perform at Nationals. As long as the swimmers have the correct % at the start of the next season they will be invited to return to the top squad.

Link swimmers

Swimmers, girls 13- boys 14 years, can link into the National Squad from the National Potential squad and the Competitive Development Squad if they are within 7% of a National qualifying time. Swimmers must be within 7% on the 200 or 400 I.M plus 1 other event (excluding 50’s) Swimmers at this level theoretically should be capable of making National Qualifying Times in the not too distant future. The performance criteria will slowly drop each season.

Swimmers will compete at meets that have been structured into the competition calendar; Swimmers can not compete at meets outside the calendar without the permission of the head coach. Swimmers found to have done this will have their place in the squad reviewed

The commitment criteria to be in this group are currently as follows:

20 hours per week available plus additional Land training / and stretching(injury prevention)

All swimmers must make a minimum of 9 sessions per week.
